Hi, I'm Emma, founder of Emma Joyce Photography.
I am passionate about photography and I am inseparable from my camera. Be it portraits, landscapes or something different, I have tried every niche in photography and found joy in them all - hence offering such a diverse collection of services!
I grew up and continue to live in semi-rural Dorset in England. Surrounded by rolling fields and small communities, my love for landscapes and people began young. My parents also loved cameras and had an array of film, digital and cine cameras which meant that I had my first camera when I was 4 (and I never really stopped!). It is no surprise that photography became my desired career path, nor was it a surprise that I couldn't single myself to one speciality as I tried and loved every genre of photography I tried.

I currently shoot with my trusty Canon digital camera and, when the project allows, my Praktica or Nikon 35mm film cameras. I admittedly enjoy responding to conversations of how people used to shoot in film with "I still shoot film!" At A-level and University, I studied photography and spent time shooting digital and film, as well as learning how to develop, scan or hand print film in a darkroom and how to create my own picture frames and bind books!
Be assured, that if we work together as photographer and client, you will find me dedicated and smiling. Photography brings me great joy whether I am in the countryside photographing landscapes, capturing portraits of beautiful people, creating promotional or corporate images and videos, or shooting unit stills. But I am also proud to be in this business so I always ensure my work is to the highest professional standard in both composition and editing. I thoroughly plan and research for upcoming shoots and projects to ensure that briefs are fulfilled and client expectations are exceeded. So if this suits you, get in touch!
Degree:
In 2022 I graduated from Arts University Bournemouth with a First Class Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree in Photography. This helped create a solid foundation for my learning and development as a professional photographer. I know many people feel they don't need university or a degree to go into the creative arts but I definitely feel that it has been the launchpad for my professional creative career.
Unit Stills Mentee:
In 2024, I met Academy Award winner Gareth Ellis-Unwin, Producer of the King's Speech, and had the opportunity to be photographed with his Oscar! Following from our meeting, Gareth has taken me on as a mentee to help me progress as a film set Unit Stills Photographer (behind the scenes). I have since worked at Shinfield Studios on an upcoming film's test shoot with Gareth which can be found here.
Career:
I have worked as a Media Instructor in the Higher and Further Education Sector most recently, helping to teach the new generation of film makers how to use an array of cameras, lighting equipment, rigging, and studio setups. This has been a valuable experience in developing my own videography skills and practice, as well as being rewarding in knowing that I have had a positive impact on these young people's lives. I hope in my future to continue to give back to the younger generations, who find it increasingly hard to break out into the world.
